Maria P. Walther

Maria Walther is a literacy educator, author, and consultant with over three decades of experience teaching first grade in the United States. She holds a doctoral degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University and is a National Board Certified Teacher, recognized for her work in literacy instruction. Walther has been honored as Illinois Reading Educator of the Year, received the ICARE for Reading Award for fostering a love of reading in children, and was named Outstanding Literacy Alumni by the Department of Literacy Education at Northern Illinois University.

Drawing on her classroom practice and research, Walther has authored several professional books for educators, including The Ramped-Up Read Aloud: What to Notice as You Turn the Page, More Ramped-Up Read Alouds: Building Knowledge and Boosting Comprehension, Shake Up Shared Reading: Expanding on Read Alouds to Encourage Student Independence, and A Year for the Books: Routines and Mindsets for Creating Student Centered Reading Communities. She is also co-author of Literacy Workshop: Where Reading and Writing Converge, which outlines an integrated approach to reading and writing instruction. Through her writing, consulting, and professional learning sessions, Walther focuses on creating engaging literacy experiences that support young readers and writers.
