Marjorie Martinelli

Marjorie Martinelli is an educator, writer, and artist known for her work on using classroom charts to promote student independence and visible learning. She is co-author of Smarter Charts K–2: Optimizing an Instructional Staple to Create Independent Readers and Writers and Smarter Charts for Math, Science, and Social Studies: Making Learning Visible in the Content Areas, both written with Kristine Mraz and published by Heinemann. She is a co-founder of the Chartchums blog, where she and Mraz share practical guidance on effective charting in classrooms.

Martinelli has served as a Senior Research Associate, writer, staff developer, and literacy consultant at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, working with schools in New York City, across the United States, and internationally. Her background includes teaching in New York City public schools, including PS 77 and The Laboratory School for Gifted Education, and serving as an instructor at Bank Street College of Education. In addition to the Smarter Charts series, her published work includes contributions to the Units of Study for Writing series and the BrainQuest Math series for grades 1 and 2.
