Mark Anthony Gooden
Mark Anthony Gooden is a Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Professor of Education Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also serves as Chair of the Department of Organization and Leadership and directs the Endeavor Antiracist and Restorative Leadership Institute. He began his career as a secondary mathematics teacher and later taught educational leadership at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Texas at Austin before joining Teachers College in 2017. Gooden holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Albany State University and M.Ed., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Policy and Leadership/Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University.
Gooden’s research and teaching focus on culturally responsive and antiracist school leadership, the principalship, urban educational leadership, and legal issues in education. He is a past president of the Executive Committee for the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) and has spent more than two decades in higher education developing and teaching courses in leadership, diversity, law, and research methods. He is co-author of Five Practices for Equity-Focused School Leadership (ASCD, 2021), written with Sharon I. Radd, Gretchen Givens Generett, and George Theoharis, which offers equity-focused “disruptive practices” and frameworks to help school leaders
