Mark Lubkowitz

Mark Lubkowitz is a Professor of Biology at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, where he has taught since 2001. He earned a B.S. in Biology from Washington and Lee University and a Ph.D. in Microbiology/Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in plant developmental genetics at the University of California, Berkeley.

His research focuses on molecular transport processes in plants, including how transporters affect seed germination and sugar distribution, and he has also co-authored books that connect science instruction with children’s literature, including _Sharing Books, Talking Science: Exploring Scientific Concepts with Children’s Literature_ and _Books in Bloom: Discovering the Plant Biology in Children’s Literature_. He has received the Joanne Rathgeb Teaching Award at Saint Michael’s College and was recognized in 2024 with the Maize Genetic Leadership Award for mentorship, leadership, outreach, and education.
