Mark Weakland

Mark Weakland is a teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, consultant, author, and musician based in Pennsylvania. He has more than 23 years of experience in public education, including work as a 4th–5th grade learning support teacher, reading consultant, and K–6 Title I reading specialist. Through his company, Mark Weakland Literacy, founded in 2014, he works with students, teachers, and administrators in job-embedded, classroom-based models to build effective literacy programs and create authentic reading and writing experiences. As a national presenter, he provides workshops and talks on literacy topics for educators across the United States.

Weakland is the author of multiple professional resources for teachers, including How to Prevent Reading Difficulties, Grades PreK–3: Proactive Practices for Teaching Young Children to Read (Corwin Literacy), which blends the science of reading with evidence-based instructional practices to help prevent early reading problems. He also wrote Super Spellers: Seven Steps to Transforming Your Spelling Instruction, a research-based approach to spelling that connects instruction to authentic reading and writing. In addition to his professional books, Weakland has authored more than 65–70 books for children and created award-winning music projects.
