Mark Weichel

Mark Weichel, EdD, is assistant superintendent for teaching and learning at Westside Community Schools in Omaha, Nebraska, where he leads work recognized locally and nationally for its focus on collaboration, innovation, technology integration, and personalized learning. He has played a key leadership role in developing collaborative systems and personalized learning initiatives, and he presents at state and national conferences on professional learning communities (PLCs) and secondary school improvement.

Previously, Weichel served as director of secondary curriculum, high school building administrator, and junior high school social studies teacher in Papillion‑La Vista Community Schools in Nebraska, where he and his staff implemented PLC at Work® strategies associated with sharp reductions in failure rates and strong performance on standardized assessments. He coauthored When They Already Know It: How to Extend and Personalize Student Learning in a PLC at Work® and authored What’s Next?: Monthly Extensions to Challenge Proficient Students in a PLC at Work®, and he has taught in the graduate schools of Peru State College and the University of Nebraska Omaha. Weichel holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
