Marsha A. Miller

Marsha A. Miller is an academic advising specialist who served for many years in the Executive Office of NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising, based at Kansas State University. A NACADA member since 1988, she became Assistant Director for Resources and Services, working extensively on advisor development, resources for underprepared students, and the history and practice of academic advising. She has also been deeply involved in NACADA publishing, including work as managing editor for association journals and books focused on advising practice and scholarship.

Miller is co-editor of Academic Advising Approaches: Strategies That Teach Students to Make the Most of College, published by Jossey-Bass in 2013, where she also contributes advising-as-teaching content. She later co-edited Beyond Foundations: Developing as a Master Academic Advisor, a 2016 volume on advanced advising practice. Her written work for NACADA includes articles such as “How to Thrive, Not Just Survive, As a New Advisor,” “Structuring Our Conversations: Shifting to Four Dimensional Advising Models,” and a history of NACADA, as well as contributions to projects like the 2011 NACADA National Survey.
