Martin Brandt

Martin Brandt is an English teacher at Independence High School in San Jose, California, a large urban school serving a diverse student population. He is a teacher consultant with the San Jose Area Writing Project and a former winner of the California Teachers of English Award for Classroom Excellence.

He is the author of Between the Commas: Sentence Instruction That Builds Confident Writers (and Writing Teachers), published by Heinemann in 2019, in which he presents a practical framework for sentence-level writing instruction centered on sentence focus, development, and coherence.
