Mary Amanda Stewart
Mary Amanda (Mandy) Stewart is an associate professor in the Department of Literacy and Learning at Texas Woman’s University, where she serves as program chair for the M.A. in Multilingual and Multicultural Studies and directs the Certificate of Biliteracy graduate program. Her scholarship focuses on biliteracy, second language literacy development, and critical literacy for children, adolescents, and adults acquiring English as an additional language, particularly multilingual adolescents and newcomer students.
Stewart is the coauthor of But Does This Work With English Learners?: A Guide for English Language Arts Teachers, Grades 6–12, as well as other books including Keep It R.E.A.L.! Relevant, Engaging, and Affirming Literacy for Adolescent English Learners, Understanding Adolescent Immigrants: Moving Toward an Extraordinary Discourse for Extraordinary Youth, and Radicalizing Literacies and Languaging: A Framework toward Dismantling the Mono-Mainstream Assumption. She has published widely in literacy and bilingual/ESL journals such as Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, The English Journal, Research in the Teaching of English, Literacy Research & Instruction, and TESOL Journal.
