Mary C. McMackin
Mary C. McMackin is a literacy educator and author who has specialized in differentiated instruction and the use of leveled graphic organizers to support reading and writing instruction. She is a professor in the Language and Literacy Division of the School of Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and began her career as an elementary school teacher before moving into higher education, where she teaches graduate literacy courses to preservice and in-service teachers.
McMackin has coauthored multiple practitioner resources with Nancy L. Witherell, including Teaching Writing Through Differentiated Instruction with Leveled Graphic Organizers, Teaching Reading Through Differentiated Instruction with Leveled Graphic Organizers, Teaching Vocabulary Through Differentiated Instruction with Leveled Graphic Organizers, and Graphic Organizers and Activities for Differentiated Instruction in Reading, all published by Scholastic. She has also contributed to literacy scholarship, including the article “Investigating Inferences: Constructing Meaning From Expository Texts” in Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts.
