Mary Ehrenworth

Mary Ehrenworth, EdD, is a literacy scholar and educational leader who has spent more than two decades at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she has served in senior roles with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and Advancing Literacy. She holds a BA in history and literature from Harvard University and an MA and EdD in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University, and she works nationally and internationally with schools and districts on curriculum, staff development, and leadership in reading and writing instruction.

Ehrenworth is the author or co-author of numerous books and professional resources for educators, including AI-Enhanced Literacy: Practical Steps for Deepening Reading and Writing Instruction (with Philip Seyfried), The Civically Engaged Classroom: Reading, Writing, and Speaking for Change (with Pablo Wolfe and Marc Todd), Pathways to the Common Core (with Lucy Calkins and Christopher Lehman), The Power of Grammar, Looking to Write: Teaching Writing Through the Visual Arts, and Teaching Reading Through Fantasy Novels, as well as multiple Units of Study in reading and writing. Her work focuses on critical literacies, deep interpretation, AI and literacy, and reading and writing for social justice, supporting teachers and students in developing powerful and engaged literacy practices.
