Maryann McBride

Maryann McBride is a Reading Recovery teacher leader at Clemson University’s Early Literacy Center for South Carolina, where her work focuses on reading in the primary grades, early intervention, and Reading Recovery. She completed Reading Recovery Teacher Leader Training at The Ohio State University in 1993, holds an M.Ed. in Reading from Loyola College in Baltimore (1979), and earned a B.S. from Frostburg State University (1975). She is active in professional literacy communities, including presenting at national Reading Recovery and K–6 literacy conferences and leading sessions on topics such as integrating sources of information in text reading, letter learning in intervention, and the power of writing.

McBride is coauthor of The Next Step Forward in Running Records: Getting to the Heart of Effective Instruction Through Deeper Qualitative Analysis, which provides guidance on taking, scoring, and analyzing running records to inform effective literacy instruction. She has also developed and featured in Clemson Early Literacy Center resources and videos on running records, lesson notes, additional analysis of running records, and high-frequency word learning for struggling readers.
