Maureen Uclés

Maureen Uclés is an educator and author specializing in bilingual and English learner instruction, with over three decades of experience working with diverse student populations in elementary, middle, and high school settings. She began her education career as a teacher trainer in Honduras as a Peace Corps volunteer and has since focused much of her work on bilingual and ESL classrooms. Uclés earned a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and has served as an instructional specialist and multiclassroom teacher leader in Texas.

She is the author of the dual-language, two-volume curriculum guide ¡Ándale Ya! / Let’s Go!, designed for fourth-grade bilingual and English learner writing classrooms and aligned with state standards. This program, based on the work of Gretchen Bernabei and developed from Uclés’s own bilingual classroom practice, provides 27 weeks of English and Spanish grammar, spelling, and composition instruction and can be adapted for grades 3–8. She has also authored Let’s Go Now!, a resource for English learners in grades 3–8, and maintains a YouTube channel and a Google Site titled The Elementary Digital Reading Project to share additional instructional materials.
