Melissa Cristina Márquez

Melissa Cristina Márquez is a Puerto Rican marine biologist, science communicator, wildlife educator, and author whose work focuses on sharks and their relatives, including skates, rays, and chimaeras. She was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Mexico, and she has held degrees in marine ecology and conservation and in marine biology.

Her published books include the children’s picture book Mother of Sharks (2023), illustrated by Devin Elle Kurtz. She is also the author of the Wild Survival middle-grade series, including Crocodile Rescue!, Swimming With Sharks, and Chasing Jaguars.
