Melissa Sweet

Melissa Sweet is an American author and illustrator of children’s books, recognized for her distinctive mixed‑media collage artwork and expressive watercolor illustrations. She has illustrated dozens of books (nearly 100 titles) for young readers, collaborating with many authors and also writing and illustrating books of her own. Among her best-known self-authored works are “Carmine: A Little More Red,” “Tupelo Rides the Rails,” “Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade,” and “Some Writer! The Story of E.B. White.” Her illustrations for biographies such as “A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Williams” and “The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus” have received Caldecott Honor recognition, and Balloons Over Broadway received the Robert F. Sibert Medal and multiple other nonfiction and STEM picture book awards. She is also the illustrator of “Rubia and the Three Osos: A Tale That Blends English and Spanish,” written by Susan Middleton Elya.
