Michael Hinojosa

Michael Hinojosa is an American educator and longtime school district leader whose career in public education spans more than four decades, progressing from teacher and coach to superintendent and CEO in multiple large districts. Born in Mexico and raised in the Dallas area, he graduated from Sunset High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University, a master’s degree from the University of North Texas, and a doctorate in education from the University of Texas at Austin. He has served as superintendent for several districts in Texas and Georgia, including the Dallas Independent School District and the Cobb County School District, accumulating over 27 years as a superintendent and 13 years leading Dallas ISD.

Hinojosa has received multiple honors for his leadership, including being named Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards and by the University of Texas at Austin, and Outstanding Latino Educator by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents. After retiring from Dallas ISD in 2022, he became chief impact officer at engage2learn, a nonprofit supporting public schools. He is the author of Superintendent-Wise: Critical Lessons for Leading Your District, published by Corwin, in which he shares lessons for education leaders drawn from his extensive experience in leading large, complex school systems.
