Michael Rosen

Michael Rosen (born May 7, 1946, in Harrow, Middlesex) is an English children’s author, poet, broadcaster and academic, best known for the picture book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt (1989), illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. He has written over 200 books for children and adults, including poetry collections, picture books and nonfiction, and is widely regarded as one of Britain’s best‑loved writers and performance poets for young readers.

Rosen studied English Language and Literature at Wadham College, Oxford, later completing an MA at the University of Reading and a PhD at London Metropolitan University. He has taught children’s literature at university level since the 1990s and is Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London. From 2007 to 2009 he served as the Children’s Laureate in the UK, and in 2026 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his outstanding contribution to children’s literature.
