Michele Myers

Michele Myers, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Wake Forest University, where her work focuses on culturally sustaining pedagogy and the role of familial networks of support in children’s literacy development. She is described as a holistic, social justice educator committed to ensuring that children receive a humanizing education that honors their histories, heritages, literacies, languages, cultures, family structures, and communities as assets for learning.

Myers is the co-author of The Educator’s Guide to Building Child & Family Resilience: Unlocking the Power of the Stories Students Tell (Scholastic, 2023), written with developmental pediatrician Linda C. Mayes and grounded in research from the Yale Child Study Center. She also co-authored Revolutionary Love: Creating a Culturally Inclusive Literacy Classroom, which offers practices and tools for creating inclusive literacy environments that affirm students’ identities, languages, and cultures.
