Mikaela Loach

Mikaela Loach is a Jamaican-British climate justice activist, organiser, and author based in the United Kingdom. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, to a Jamaican mother and British father, she moved to Surrey, England, as a young child. She studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where her work and public profile have focused on the intersections of climate change with racism, colonialism, migration, and economic injustice. Loach has been recognised as one of the most influential women in the UK climate movement by outlets such as Forbes, Global Citizen, and BBC Woman’s Hour, and has been nominated for the Global Citizen Prize: UK’s Hero Award. She was also one of the claimants in the Paid To Pollute legal case challenging UK government support for fossil fuel companies.

Loach is the bestselling author of It’s Not That Radical: Climate Action to Transform Our World (2023), which explores climate and racial justice and offers tools for transformative climate action. In 2025 she published Climate Is Just the Start, a book for younger readers that introduces climate justice and broader systems of oppression, which received strong critical recognition including a starred review from Booklist and selection by the Junior Library Guild.[14
