    Miriam Gamoran Sherin

    Miriam Gamoran Sherin is an Alice Gabrielle Twight Professor of Learning Sciences in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, where she has also served in key leadership roles including Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, Director of Undergraduate Education, and Associate Dean for Teacher Education. Her research focuses on mathematics teaching and learning, particularly teacher cognition and teacher noticing and the use of video as a tool for teacher professional development. Sherin holds a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, and a Ph.D. in Science and Mathematics Education from the University of California, Berkeley.

    She is a coauthor of The Five Practices in Practice [High School]: Successfully Orchestrating Mathematics Discussions in Your High School Classroom, written with Margaret (Peg) Smith and Michael D. Steele. Her scholarship on teacher learning and video-based professional development includes works such as Mathematics Teacher Noticing: Seeing Through Teachers’ Eyes and research articles on teacher self-captured video and video clubs for teachers.
