Miriam P. Trehearne

Miriam P. Trehearne is a Canadian literacy consultant, author, and former classroom teacher (K–6) who has worked as a resource teacher, program specialist for exceptional needs students, literacy coach, literacy specialist, and university associate. As a literacy specialist, she led a large research-based literacy initiative in an urban school district, focusing on 56 high‑needs schools and achieving documented gains that closed literacy gaps by third grade. She now works internationally with teachers, literacy coaches, school leaders, and parents, supporting literacy reform through professional development, literacy audits, and school/district action plans.

Trehearne is the author of multiple teacher professional books and student literacy resources for preschool and elementary grades, including Learning to Write and Loving It! Preschool–Kindergarten (Corwin, 2011), which received an award in 2012. Her other works include Comprehensive Literacy Resources for Preschool Teachers, Comprehensive Literacy Resources for Grades 1–2 Teachers, and Multiple Paths to Literacy K–2, as well as several best‑selling teacher resource books for Grades K–5. She has published in journals and is a frequent speaker at major conferences such as IRA, NAEYC, ASCD, the European Reading Conference, and the World Congress of the International Reading Association.
