Mychal Threets

Mychal Threets is an American librarian, author, and mental health advocate widely known online as “Mychal the Librarian.” Born in 1990 in Fairfield, California, he was homeschooled and grew up spending extensive time at the Solano County Library, where he later began his career as a library shelver and eventually became a supervising librarian. His upbeat, affirming videos about libraries, reading, and mental health have garnered a large following across social media, earning him recognition as a literacy ambassador and “the Internet’s librarian.”

Threets is the author of the picture book I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy, illustrated by Lorraine Nam and published by Random House Children’s Books, which invites young readers to discover the welcoming, community-centered world of the library. He serves as Resident Librarian for PBS and PBS Kids and is the host of the revived children’s program Reading Rainbow, roles that extend his library advocacy and love of books to a national audience.
