Nanci N. Smith, PhD, is a mathematics educator and consultant with extensive experience in curriculum, assessment, and differentiated instruction. According to publisher and author information, she has worked with schools and districts across the United States and internationally, and has taught high school and university-level mathematics as well as graduate courses in differentiated instruction. She is nationally board certified in adolescent and young-adult mathematics and earned a BS in mathematics education from Grand Canyon University, an MAEd in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix, and a PhD in mathematics education from Arizona State University.
Smith is the author of A Mind for Mathematics: Meaningful Teaching and Learning in Elementary Classrooms and the Every Math Learner books for grades K–5 and 6–12, which focus on teaching mathematics with learning differences in mind. She has also been described as a nationally recognized math differentiation expert and a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.
