Nancy Cloud

Nancy Cloud, Ed.D., is a Professor Emerita of Educational Studies in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development at Rhode Island College in Providence, where she has specialized in ESL, bilingual, and dual language education. At Rhode Island College she coordinated the M.Ed. in TESL/TESOL program, taught graduate courses on second language and literacy development and the assessment of English learners, and directed the TESOL and Bilingual Teacher Preparation Program from 2006 to 2015. She co-founded the Rhode Island Teachers of English Language Learners (RITELL) in 2000 and has been recognized with RITELL’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to multilingual learning.

Cloud is coauthor of Dual Language Instruction from A to Z: Practical Guidance for Teachers and Administrators, a comprehensive guide to developing and improving dual language programs, with Else Hamayan and Fred Genesee. She is also coauthor of Literacy Instruction for English Language Learners: A Teacher’s Guide to Research-Based Practices and Teaching Adolescent English Language Learners: Essential Strategies for Middle and High School, and continues to publish and consult nationally on responsive curriculum, assessment, and instruction for K–12 English learners.
