Nancy Cushen White

Nancy Cushen White, Ed.D., CALT-QI, BCET, is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she is part of the UCSF Dyslexia Research/Program leadership team and teaches in child and adolescent psychiatry. She has worked in education since the early 1970s, including about 40 years in San Francisco public schools as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, and special education curriculum program consultant, and has long specialized in dyslexia and related learning difficulties. She is a Certified Academic Language Therapist, Board Certified Educational Therapist, and a certified instructor of the Slingerland Multisensory Structured Language Approach, and has served as a literacy intervention consultant and case manager for the Lexicon Reading Center in Dubai.

Dr. Cushen White holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of San Francisco, an M.Ed. in Specific Language Disability from the College of Notre Dame (Belmont, CA), and a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina. Since 1973 she has used multisensory structured language strategies to teach students of all ages and has been active in professional organizations including the International
