Nancy N. Boyles
Nancy N. Boyles is a Professor Emerita of Reading at Southern Connecticut State University, a former classroom teacher, and an independent literacy consultant who works with districts and educational agencies to provide workshops, model lessons, and curriculum development support. Over the course of her career she has received multiple honors, including the New England Reading Association's Outstanding Literacy Leader Award and the Connecticut Reading Association's Celebrate Literacy Award for exemplary service.
Boyles is the author of numerous professional books for educators, including Closer Reading, Grades 3–6: Better Prep, Smarter Lessons, Deeper Comprehension, Lessons and Units for Closer Reading, Grades 3–6: Ready-to-Go Resources and Planning Tools Galore, and Lessons and Units for Closer Reading, Grades K–2: Ready-to-Go Resources and Assessment Tools Galore, all published in the Corwin Literacy series. She also wrote Reading, Writing, and Rigor: Helping Students Achieve Greater Depth of Knowledge in Literacy (ASCD), which applies Webb's Depth of Knowledge framework to K–8 literacy assessment and instruction, and Classroom Reading to Engage the Heart and Mind: 200+ Picture Books to Start SEL Conversations (W.W. Norton), which connects children's literature with social-emotional learning competencies.
