Natasha Thornton

Natasha Thornton, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of elementary education at Spelman College, where her work focuses on culturally responsive literacy instruction, the intersection of teachers’ beliefs and practices, and centering the legacy of Black educators in teacher education. She develops literacy materials that highlight stories of Black history and excellence and designs curricula that affirm Black children’s histories and identities.

Thornton is a co-author of Revolutionary Love: Creating a Culturally Inclusive Literacy Classroom (Scholastic, 2022), which examines how teachers can affirm and build on students’ cultural and linguistic resources during literacy instruction. She also writes on topics such as uplifting the legacy of Black teachers, contributing to scholarship that bridges theory and classroom practice.
