Nina Parrish
Nina Parrish is an educator, author, and learning center leader specializing in metacognition, self-regulation, and support for diverse learners. She is the author of The Independent Learner: Metacognitive Exercises to Help K–12 Students Focus, Self-Regulate, and Persevere, which provides research-based strategies to help students develop metacognitive skills and take ownership of their learning. She is the cofounder and chief academic officer (or CEO) of Parrish Learning Zone in northern Virginia, a center that has provided supplementary educational services and academic coaching to students of all ages.
Parrish has roughly two decades of experience in education, including work as a special education teacher, tutor, education center director, speaker, and educational consultant. She has taught remedial reading, language arts, mathematics, history, and study skills to middle school students and has particular expertise working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders. She holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Mary Washington, a special education teaching certification from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Master’s Degree in Education for school counseling (PreK–12) from Virginia Commonwealth University.
