Noma R. LeMoine

Noma R. LeMoine is a nationally recognized expert on academic language, literacy, and culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy, particularly for African American and other Standard English Learner (SEL) populations. Her career in education spans more than three decades, including leadership as Director of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Academic English Mastery Program, where she oversaw the design and implementation of services for tens of thousands of students and educators focused on language development for SELs. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Southern California with a specialization in Language, Literacy, and Learning, as well as two master’s degrees, including one in Language and Speech Pathology and Audiology from California State University, Los Angeles.

LeMoine is the coauthor of Academic Language Mastery: Culture in Context, part of the Academic Language Mastery series edited by Ivannia Soto, in which she examines how culturally and linguistically responsive instruction supports ethnically diverse students. She is CEO of LeMoine & Associates Educational Consulting Consortium and is a sought-after national consultant to school districts, colleges, and universities, and has written and spoken extensively on academic English development for Standard English Learners.
