Orinthia Swindell

Orinthia Swindell is an educator, editor, and facilitator whose work centers the voices and experiences of youth and families, with a particular focus on diversity, equity, and young children’s awareness of race and identity. She is a co-editor of the 2021 Corwin volume Teaching Beautiful Brilliant Black Girls, an edited collection that calls for educational justice and transformed classroom practice for Black girls. Swindell has facilitated workshops, presented at national conferences, and served as a guest speaker in teacher preparation programs, often supporting adults’ skill development around race, identity, and inclusion.

Swindell has held long-term roles in school-based equity work, including serving as Associate Director of Diversity at Brooklyn Friends School, where she has been part of the school community for more than two decades. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Brooklyn College, a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (N–2) from Hunter College, and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Leadership from Bank Street College of Education.
