Patrice M. Bain
Patrice M. Bain, Ed.S., is an award‑winning K–12 and university educator, speaker, and author with more than 25 years of classroom experience, including many years teaching middle school social studies in Illinois. Her sixth‑grade classroom was one of the first in the United States used for collaborative research with cognitive scientists on how students learn, work that helped inform widely cited studies and resources on effective teaching. Bain holds an Education Specialist degree from Southern Illinois University, earned in 2007.
Bain is co‑author of Powerful Teaching: Unleash the Science of Learning with cognitive scientist Pooja K. Agarwal, a book that translates cognitive science research into practical classroom strategies. She is also the only teacher‑author of the Institute of Education Sciences practice guide Organizing Instruction and Study to Improve Student Learning, and has authored A Parent’s Guide to Powerful Teaching and Powerful Classrooms: Evidence‑informed Strategies and Resources. Her work has been featured in outlets such as PBS’s NOVA, Scientific American, NPR, and other national and international media, and she has been recognized as a finalist for Illinois Teacher of the Year and as a Fulbright Scholar in Russia.
