Paula Maeker

Paula Maeker is an educator, consultant, and author focused on learner-centered literacy and professional learning communities. She has more than twenty-three years of experience in roles including elementary teacher, literacy specialist, instructional coach, Title I program coordinator, campus administrator, director of elementary literacy, and director of instructional design, most recently serving as director of instructional design for Tomball ISD in northwest Houston, Texas. She holds Texas certifications as a principal, Master Reading Teacher (PK–12), Generalist (EC–4), and ESL (K–12), and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master of education in school administration at Lamar University.

Maeker is the coauthor of Literacy in a PLC at Work®: Guiding Teams to Get Going and Get Better in Grades K–6 Reading, written with Jacqueline Heller, which provides a framework for K–6 teacher teams to improve reading instruction through the Professional Learning Communities at Work® process. In addition to her writing, she works nationally as an educational consultant and presenter, supporting schools in developing effective Tier 1 instruction, literacy systems, and collaborative team practices aimed at ensuring high levels of literacy for all students.
