Peter Sullivan

Peter Sullivan is an Australian mathematics educator and Emeritus Professor at Monash University, widely recognised for his work on improving mathematics teaching and learning. He has extensive experience in mathematics education research and has served as editor of the Mathematics Education Research Journal, a peer‑reviewed journal in the field.

Sullivan is the co-author of Good Questions for Math Teaching: Why Ask Them and What to Ask, Grades K-5 (Second Edition) and its earlier K–6 version, developed with Pat Lilburn and focused on using open‑ended “good questions” to enhance mathematical thinking in primary classrooms. These books build on his earlier Australian resource Open-ended Maths Activities: Using Good Questions to Enhance Learning. He has also authored Leading Improvement in Mathematics Teaching and Learning (ACER Press, 2020), further contributing to practical guidance for teachers seeking to strengthen numeracy instruction.
