Pérsida Himmele

Pérsida Himmele is a professor of teacher education at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, where she has taught for more than 20 years. She previously spent about a decade as an elementary and middle school teacher in bilingual and multilingual classrooms in New York and California, and later served as a district administrator in Pennsylvania, as well as a consultant to school districts, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and other educational organizations. She holds a PhD in intercultural education from Biola University and a master’s degree in elementary and bilingual education from SUNY Buffalo.

Himmele is coauthor, with William Himmele, of several ASCD titles and resources, including the bestseller Total Participation Techniques: Making Every Student an Active Learner (multiple editions) and its related quick reference guides. She also coauthored Why Are We Still Doing That?: Positive Alternatives to Problematic Teaching Practices and Now That I Think About It: Teaching Your Students to Be Reflective and Effective Learners, which focus on student engagement, reflective learning, and improving classroom practice.
