Rachel Brown-Chidsey

Rachel Brown-Chidsey, PhD, NCSP, is an associate professor of school psychology at the University of Alaska Anchorage and professor emerita at the University of Southern Maine. She has more than 25 years of experience in education, having previously worked as a classroom teacher and special educator, and currently serves as president of the Maine State Council for Exceptional Children. Brown-Chidsey is a nationally recognized expert in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), inclusive teaching practices, and effective interventions within MTSS frameworks.

Her scholarship focuses on curriculum-based measurement, response to intervention (RTI), MTSS, and scientifically based instructional methods. Brown-Chidsey is the coauthor of Practical Handbook of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: Building Academic and Behavioral Success in Schools and its revised second edition, Practical Handbook of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: Building Integrated Academic and Behavioral Success in Schools, along with other books such as Response to Intervention: Principles and Strategies for Effective Practice and RTI in the Classroom: Guidelines and Recipes for Success. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on reading assessment, tiered instruction, and support for struggling learners and students with disabilities, and has consulted widely with school districts on RTI and MTSS implementation.
