Rachel Lambert

Dr. Rachel Lambert is an associate professor of mathematics education and special education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where her work focuses on the intersection of disability studies and mathematics teaching and learning. She has more than a decade of experience as a general education classroom teacher, special education co-teacher, resource room teacher, and preschool intervention specialist in New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, experience that informs her research and writing on equitable mathematics classrooms for students with disabilities.

Lambert is the author of Rethinking Disability and Mathematics: A UDL Math Classroom Guide for Grades K–8 (Corwin Mathematics Series, 2024), which introduces UDL Math (Universal Design for Learning in Mathematics) as a framework for designing math classrooms where disabled and neurodiverse students can engage in meaningful, rigorous, and joyful mathematics. Her scholarship on UDL Math includes work such as “The Magic Is in the Margins: UDL Math” in Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK–12 and research briefs on increasing access to universally designed mathematics classrooms for students with disabilities.
