Rachel Tidd
Rachel Tidd is an educator and author focused on integrating outdoor, nature-based experiences into core academic instruction, particularly math and literacy. She wrote Wild Learning: Practical Ideas to Bring Teaching Outdoors, a teacher education book published in 2023 that offers practical, curriculum-aligned activities for taking reading, writing, and math lessons outside into accessible spaces such as schoolyards and neighborhood environments. She is also the creator and author of the Wild Math® and Wild Reading® curricula series, which use natural materials and outdoor settings to support foundational academic skills.
Tidd has worked as a special education teacher and is a homeschooling parent, experiences that inform her focus on inclusive outdoor learning and practical classroom routines. She holds a dual master’s degree from Bank Street College of Education and has a background in environmental science, which underpins her emphasis on place-based learning and using the outdoors as a primary resource for teaching core academics. Through her Discover Wild Learning platform and frequent podcast and webinar appearances, she is recognized as a leading proponent of everyday outdoor instruction for both school and home education settings.
