Rajani LaRocca

Rajani LaRocca is an Indian-American physician and award-winning author of books for young readers. She was born in Bangalore, India, raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and now lives in the Boston area, where she has worked as a primary care internal medicine physician since 2001. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, she trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and continues to balance her medical practice with a prolific writing career.

LaRocca writes middle-grade fiction, picture books, and nonfiction that often explore Indian-American identity, family, and STEM topics. Her middle-grade novel in verse Red, White, and Whole received a 2022 Newbery Honor as well as multiple other awards. Her works include the middle-grade novels Midsummer’s Mayhem and Much Ado About Baseball, and numerous picture books such as Seven Golden Rings: A Tale of Music and Math, Bracelets for Bina’s Brothers, Where Three Oceans Meet, My Little Golden Book About Kamala Harris, The Secret Code Inside You, and I’ll Go and Come Back, among others.
