Rebecca E. F. Barone

Rebecca E. F. Barone is an engineer and narrative nonfiction author for young readers, known for combining technical rigor with engaging storytelling. She has worked on engineering projects including injury analysis for the National Football League, research on knee mechanics and gait biometrics, and engine calibration for hybrid cars. She holds degrees in both mechanical engineering and English, including a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, as well as multiple graduate degrees in mechanical engineering.

Barone is the author of Race to the Bottom of the Earth: Surviving Antarctica, Unbreakable: The Spies Who Cracked the Nazis’ Secret Code, and Mountain of Fire: The Eruption and Survivors of Mount St. Helens. Her books have collectively received numerous starred reviews and have appeared on multiple “best of the year” lists. She lives in Ohio with her family.
