Rebecca Katsh-Singer

Rebecca Katsh-Singer is a science educator and curriculum leader who coauthored The Instructional Leader’s Guide to Implementing K–8 Science Practices (ASCD, 2022), which supports K–8 instructional leaders in implementing the science practices embedded in the Next Generation Science Standards. She has worked as a science curriculum coordinator in the Westborough Public Schools in Massachusetts and serves on the faculty at Brandeis University, focusing on science education and the implementation of science practices in K–8 classrooms.

Katsh-Singer earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction (science education) at Boston College, where her dissertation research examined district instructional leaders’ beliefs and knowledge about scientific argumentation. Prior to her doctoral studies, she taught elementary and middle school science for about ten years and worked as an instructional coach for science teachers. Her published work includes journal articles on science practices and assessment, such as “Assessing Science Practices: Moving Your Class Along a Continuum” in Science Scope and “Deconstructing to Instruct: The Role of Deconstruction in Instruction and Assessment in Middle School Science Classrooms,” as well as research on instructional leadership in the era of the NGSS.
