Rebecca Lowenhaupt

Rebecca Lowenhaupt is an associate professor of educational leadership and higher education at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Her research examines how school principals and other school and district leaders support culturally diverse students, with a particular focus on educational leadership and policy in the context of immigration and new immigrant destinations. She uses multiple empirical methods, including surveys, social network analysis, and qualitative approaches, and teaches aspiring school and district leaders in areas such as teacher supervision, organizational theory, and research methods.

A former middle school English teacher, Lowenhaupt began her education career teaching at Nativity Preparatory School in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and later in a bilingual school in Honduras. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Harvard University and a doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Lowenhaupt is a co-author of The Instructional Leader’s Guide to Implementing K–8 Science Practices (ASCD, 2021/2022).
