Rebecca Mieliwocki
Rebecca Mieliwocki is an English teacher and author who co‑wrote Adventures in Teacher Leadership: Pathways, Strategies, and Inspiration for Every Teacher with Joseph Fatheree. She has been a public school educator for more than two decades, teaching primarily 7th grade English at Luther Burbank Middle School in the Burbank Unified School District in Southern California. In 2012 she was named both California Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year, an honor presented at the White House and sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
Mieliwocki holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from California Polytechnic State University and a Master’s degree in Secondary English/ELA Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Northridge. She has served as a teacher on special assignment in Burbank Unified, coordinating secondary professional development and new‑teacher induction and supporting instructional leadership teams. Her work and views on teaching and teacher leadership have been featured in national media, including CBS This Morning, CNN, The Ellen Show, PBS, KPCC public radio, and major newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times and the Sacramento Bee.
