Rebecca West Burns

Rebecca West Burns, Ph.D., is the dean of the College of Education at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and a nationally recognized scholar of clinically based teacher education, focusing on supervision, school–university partnerships, and teacher leadership. Prior to her role at Kutztown, she served as the Bill Herrold Endowed Professor and director of Clinical Practice and Educational Partnerships at the University of North Florida and previously was an associate professor in the College of Education at the University of South Florida, where she held multiple program leadership roles in teacher education. She has received national recognition for her impact on urban education and exemplary school–university collaboration, including the Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Education Impact Award from the Council of the Great City Schools.

Burns is coauthor, with Carl Glickman, of Leadership for Learning: How to Bring Out the Best in Every Teacher (2nd edition), published by ASCD, and has authored or coauthored multiple other books, more than 60 publications, and over 130 presentations on teacher education and supervision. Her scholarship and professional work center on building and sustaining clinical partnerships between universities and schools, and on developing supervisory practices and teacher leadership that support teacher growth and student learning.
