Richard K. Cohen

Richard K. Cohen is an educator and author whose work focuses on metacognition and social-emotional learning (SEL) across preschool and K–12 settings. He is the coauthor of The Metacognitive Student: How to Teach Academic, Social, and Emotional Intelligence in Every Content Area and coauthor of The Metacognitive Preschooler: How to Teach Academic, Social, and Emotional Intelligence to Your Youngest Students, both published by Solution Tree Press and recognized with Foreword INDIES and Independent Publisher (IPPY) education awards. His writing on metacognitive instruction and SEL has also appeared in outlets such as Educational Leadership, Edutopia, and District Administration.

Cohen has held a range of leadership roles in New Jersey public schools, including Chief Academic Officer for Secondary Education at Edison Township Public Schools, assistant superintendent of the Metuchen School District, and principal of Moss School (PreK–K) and Red Bank Primary School. He serves as faculty for Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and has led SEL initiatives at the district, county, state, and national levels.
