Rick Wormeli
Rick Wormeli is a veteran educator, author, and teacher trainer, recognized as one of the first National Board Certified Teachers in the United States. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has taught math, science, English, physical education, health, and history, and has coached teachers, principals, and other school leaders. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Virginia Tech and is based in Herndon, Virginia, where he works as an education consultant and professional development presenter.
Wormeli has authored multiple influential books on teaching and assessment, including Fair Isn’t Always Equal: Assessment & Grading in the Differentiated Classroom (with a substantially updated second edition) and Summarization in Any Subject: 60 Innovative, Tech-Infused Strategies for Deeper Student Learning (with Dedra Stafford), as well as titles such as Meet Me in the Middle, Day One and Beyond, Differentiation: From Planning to Practice, Metaphors & Analogies: Power Tools for Teaching Any Subject, and The Collected Writings (So Far) of Rick Wormeli: Crazy Good Stuff I Learned about Teaching Along the Way. His work on assessment, grading, differentiation, and literacy has been widely featured in professional journals and media outlets, and he has received honors including the James P. Garvin Award
