Robert J Wright

Robert J. (Bob) Wright is an Australian mathematics educator and an adjunct professor of mathematics education at Southern Cross University in New South Wales. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from the University of Queensland and a doctoral degree in mathematics education from the University of Georgia. Wright is internationally recognized for his work on the assessment and instruction of children’s early arithmetical knowledge and strategies, particularly through the development of the Mathematics Recovery program, an early number intervention initiative begun in the 1990s that has been implemented in countries including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK, the USA, Canada, Mexico, and South Africa.

Wright has authored or co‑authored multiple books in the Math Recovery series, including Teaching Number: Advancing Children’s Skills and Strategies, Developing Number Knowledge: Assessment, Teaching and Intervention with 7–11 Year Olds, and Teaching Number in the Classroom with 4–8 Year Olds. He is a co‑author of Teaching Early Numeracy to Children with Developmental Disabilities (Math Recovery) and On Track to Numeracy: A Framework and Tools for Guiding Classroom Number Learning (Math Recovery), which extend his research-based frameworks for assessing and fostering early numeracy into inclusive and K–5 classroom contexts.[
