Ronit Bird
Ronit Bird is a specialist teacher in dyscalculia and arithmetic difficulties and the author of several influential resources for learners who struggle with maths, including The Dyscalculia Toolkit: Supporting Learning Difficulties in Maths, Overcoming Dyscalculia and Difficulties with Number (also published as Overcoming Difficulties with Number), and The Dyscalculia Resource Book. Her books provide practical, hands-on teaching activities, games, and structured teaching plans for students who experience persistent difficulties with numeracy, particularly those with dyscalculia, dyslexia, and other specific learning difficulties.
Bird originally trained as a secondary school teacher at the Institute of Education, University of London, and later gained an OCR Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) from the Hornsby Dyslexia Institute. She has taught in both primary and secondary settings across the independent and state sectors, and has worked extensively as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). Between 2006 and 2009 she contributed to the Harrow Dyscalculia Project, providing training and advisory support for schools, and she subsequently developed and delivered professional development courses on dyscalculia for teachers and teaching assistants until her retirement from school-based work in 2022.
