Rose Cappelli
Rose Cappelli is a former teacher and reading specialist who has worked in the West Chester Area School District and now serves as a literacy consultant. She holds an undergraduate degree in teaching of the hearing impaired from Pennsylvania State University and an M.A. in reading from West Chester University, along with additional post‑graduate work at West Chester University and Immaculata University. Cappelli is a fellow of the PA Writing and Literature Project, where she has served as a course coordinator and teacher consultant, and she has been active in the Keystone State Reading/Literacy Association, including service as president and co‑chair of the Keystone to Reading Elementary Book Award Committee.
Cappelli is co‑author, with Lynne R. Dorfman, of several influential professional books on using mentor texts to teach writing, including Mentor Texts: Teaching Writing Through Children’s Literature, K‑6, Nonfiction Mentor Texts: Teaching Informational Writing Through Children’s Literature, K‑8, and Poetry Mentor Texts: Making Reading and Writing Connections, K‑8. Her work focuses on helping teachers use high‑quality children’s literature and poetry to support students’ reading and writing development.
