Ruth Ayres

Ruth Ayres is an educator, writer, and professional learning leader who serves as editor in chief of Choice Literacy and director of The Lead Learners, a professional development consortium based in northern Indiana. She has more than 25 years of experience in education, including roles as a middle and high school language arts and science teacher, a K–12 instructional coach, a district writing coach, and an innovation specialist. Ayres earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University.

Ayres is the author of Enticing Hard-to-Reach Writers (Stenhouse, 2017), a book that draws on her classroom practice and experiences as an adoptive parent to show how writing and storytelling can help children heal and thrive. She is also co-author of Day by Day: Refining Writing Workshop (with Stacey Shubitz) and Celebrating Writers (with Christi Overman), and has written numerous articles and blog posts about teaching writers. She lives in Indiana with her husband, Andy, and they have four children.
