Sara Holbrook
Sara Holbrook is an American poet, novelist, and educator whose work spans poetry for children, teens, and adults, middle grade fiction, and professional resources for teachers. A performance poet with decades of classroom and workshop experience, she has authored numerous poetry collections, including Walking on the Boundaries of Change: Poems of Transition, a Parents’ Choice Award winner, as well as Chicks Up Front and Isn’t She Ladylike for adults. Her middle grade novel The Enemy: Detroit, 1954 received the 2018 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award.
Holbrook has also written multiple professional books for educators, often in collaboration with poet Michael Salinger, focusing on how performance and poetry can strengthen students’ writing, speaking, and comprehension skills. Their titles include Outspoken! How to Improve Writing and Speaking Skills through Poetry Performance and Practical Poetry: A Non-Standard Approach to Meeting Content Standards, and they coauthored From Striving to Thriving Writers: Strategies That Jump-Start Writing with literacy expert Stephanie Harvey.
